It is a grey and wet Monday and I went back to work at the office today, so it is even more important to think of the small pleasures of the past week this evening! In fact, the weather was mostly good this past week, with some lovely sunny days for lunch time walks (see the featured image at the top of the post). Karl received his first post from Sweden in three months and rugby matches were played at the weekend in Dunedin and Auckland. Life at Level 1.
One of the small pleasures of being at home has been watching the birds. We were treated to a visit by this cheeky kākā during the week, who was quite happy to pose for a picture. Kereru and fantails are regular visitors too. Lovely to see these native birds in our garden.

As usual, food features in amongst my small pleasures of the week. There was bread as usual from Arobake, seasonal produce (parsnips, limes, yams (oca), Brussels sprouts, tamarillos and persimmons) and being at home, I could treat myself to scrambled eggs on toast covered in cheese. We went to one of our local pubs on Thursday for fish and chips (me), beef and Guinesss pie (Karl) and pork belly (Anton).

Other small pleasures this week…the dish the persimmons are in above, actually bought the week before, but now being enjoyed as you can see above. You will see it again I am sure. Saturday mornings are now back to normal, and it is lovely to chat to the regulars in Squirrel, go to Pilates and then go grocery shopping – now that is a real small pleasure.

Sunday morning dawned, and it was a beautiful start to the day as you can see below. My stepson Anton left Wellington to fly back to Copenhagen, and is now somewhere on the other side of the world heading back to Europe. He sent us a photograph from Auckland Airport of the International Departures board with one flight – his to Sydney for the second leg of his journey. We may be returning to normal life, but things are most definitely not as they were before lockdown. In the afternoon, we went to see The Trip to Greece, the fourth and final film in the series starring Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon. It was the perfect way to take our minds off things (and there was no social distancing this time either).

So that is it for this week. Wherever you are, take care and look out for those little things that bring you joy. What were your small pleasures of the week just past?
Thanks to Mani over at A New Life Wandering for the original idea.

I sure do envy how you can go out and about with fear of contracting covid-19. The food looks wonderful, and it was great to see a picture of the kākā. I had never heard of that bird. Wonderful to learn from blogging friends.

After 24 days of no cases, no Kiwis who were allowed into the country have tested positive. They arrived from the UK. Ah well…what we expected… The kākā is a wonderful native parrot that has been increasing in numbers in our region thanks to conservation measures.

Yes, I read that travelers had brought in the disease. Sigh. But on a happier note…great news about the kākās.
