An almost Wordless Wednesday post..covering our brief stay up in The Coromandel this week. From Wellington, it took us 9 hours (including a couple of stops) to drive up to this beautiful part of New Zealand, famed for its beaches and stunning views. We stayed at a place called Tranquility Hill in Coromandel town, a place that was indeed tranquil and peaceful and with stunning views as you can see below. The featured image at the top of the post is of the road up where we stayed.

Inside and outside our accommodation

The final picture is of Sunday afternoon, when the dusts from the Australian bush fires that had hit the South Island and the south of the North Island earlier in the week fell upon Auckland and where we were. The picture doesn’t really convey the eerie silence and strange light.

We drove back on Monday, through some very windy weather, luckily missing a small bush fire near Bulls, but experiencing a couple of dust storms over The Desert Road. Wellington was bathed in bright sunshine and there wasn’t a breeze in the air, a perfect welcome home.

Beautiful but how sobering New Zealand is being affected by the fires in Australia. A sad example of how what happens “over there” doesn’t stay “over there.”

Yes we sometimes forget that though we are far away, we aren’t really. Everything connects up somehow. BTW really love your last blog post about living in place.
