Coming to you on Sunday this week as I am off up to Hamilton again tomorrow, here are a few small pleasures from the last few days.
First up, I spotted this toadstool in Bolton Street Memorial Park on the way to work one morning. It looked so perfect just sitting there. A sure sign of autumn.

On Wednesday, I went to see the latest triple bill from The New Zealand Dance Company, Kiss The Sky. The three pieces were Korean choreographer Kim Jae Duk’s Sigan, which I really enjoyed, Victoria Columbus’ The Fibonacci and Stephanie Lake’s If Never Was Now. I thoroughly enjoyed the evening, and was most impressed by the quality of dancing. A real pleasure.

This week’s vegetables…more kohlrabi, which is a rediscovered favourite, a gorgeous looking cauliflower (it is nice just steamed I think, though of course in a cheese sauce it is sublime), and a radicchio, which with it bitter leaves, makes a good salad with the right dressing.

Saturday morning saw me returning to Squirrel, the new cafe on Blair Street. This time I also indulged (and that is the right word), in the ricotta and sticky jam toast. There’ll be a picture in Wednesday’s post, but suffice to say, to was a glorious, rich delight.

We had a really lazy Sunday, with some nice bread at breakfast, lots of time to read and catch up on podcasts, and a walk in the Botanic Gardens for some fresh air and exercise (it was 18C here today). Just a lovely day, ending with Julia Turshen’s Italian Flag Baked Pasta from Now and Again.

Finally, this week’s picture of Charlie, looking so sweet and innocent…..

And that’s it for this week. What were your small pleasures of the past week?
Thanks to Mani over at A New Life Wandering for the original idea.

So much to admire, but that picture of Charlie sure did make me smile. Looking forward to seeing the picture of the toast with ricotta and sticky jam. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
