Whenever I start writing a small pleasures post, I start with looking at what photos I have taken during the week. Sometimes they inspire, sometimes there isn’t a lot to report. This week there were lots of small pleasures, including three days of holiday.
Today (Monday 7 June) is a public holiday in New Zealand.
Some weeks are better than others, and what with not feeling particularly well at the start, and then some pretty miserable weather at the end, it wasn’t the best week.

The past week seems to have drifted by, with sunshine, rain and a little wind, heralding the last days of summer and the start of autumn. I have already seen feijoas for sale.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about Friday morning’s offshore earthquakes – a 7.1 at East Cape which was felt across the country (and which woke me up), and a 7.4 and 8.1 in the Kermadec Islands.
I mentioned on Monday that I am taking some time off work – two weeks to be exact. Being at home means more time for reading (actually have two books on the go for the first time in ages), time to do some clutter clearing (I was very pleased with the results of reorganising the herbs and spices today), doing a new jigsaw, listening to podcasts and going for walks. I’ve also been browsing cookbooks, seeking ideas and inspiration now I have a bit more time to try things out
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would be sitting outside, enjoying a cuppa and a warm, cheese scone. We would chat about books and what we are reading.
This week’s small pleasures comes to you on the Wellington Anniversary holiday. What a treat it is to have a long weekend like this during the summer after being back at work for two weeks!
