If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about the month past, about the fabulous meal we had for my birthday at the start of the month, about cooking (sausages with puy lentils, spicy peanut pork with noodles, pea soup, a mince and cheese pie (some of which I have written about on my Substack).

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would of course talk about the weather, about the frosty mornings which turn into gloriously sunny days, or lots of rain. After all it is winter…but still…

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we talk about books, things we have been watching, and how much we enjoy cafe life and people watching. You say do you keep a notebook of ideas? And I say yes but always so random and you smile.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would tell you I went for a walk after working at home on Tuesday, and met two ducks, three cats and saw some more signs that spring is on its way. You smile and say it won’t be long until you are featuring ducklings again and I say, yes, that will be a real delight.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would ask you if you would like to stay for some leek and potato soup? You say yes that sounds delightful on a chilly night. So we settle down to enjoy steaming bowls of goodness and continue our conversation.

    1. My favourite this week was reading about someone (a pretty well known chef/cookery writer) who orders her lipsticks from Italy. What a thought, and sounds like a delicious idea to describe a character in a book.

  2. Nothing brings winter to mind more than leek and potato soup, a regular here though I don’t like to eat too much of it as it disagrees with me a little.

  3. Although we have been experiencing some bitterly cold weather of late, there are several signs of spring around already – a bit early really yet they are encouraging 🙂 🙂 I would enjoy your soup!

  4. This theme and your execution of it always fills me with such peace. It’s like “Goodnight, Moon” for adults. The lulling loveliness and generosity of it all. And oh my, how I lingered over your first photo of the perfect cup on the perfect tablecloth. What a wonderful way for me to start my day!

  7. So glad you had such a lovely meal in honor of your birthday! I’m almost jealous of your weahter. The only reason I’m not is the fact that this is winter for you. Have a great August!
