I haven’t done a Six on Saturday post since the middle of July, but with winter ending and spring very much in evidence, I thought I would show you how some of my bulbs are doing.

Anyway, thanks to Jim at Garden Ruminations, for hosting Six on Saturday, whose knowledge of all things plants and gardening makes him an ideal host.

Your bulbs are looking healthy and pretty! We’re almost into autumn and you’re off to spring. Wishing you some wonderful blooms and weather ahead.

The freesias are blooming – the only bulbs I have. How cheerful your garden must look so early in the season.

Oh lovely! Such pretty flowers.

It’s lovely to see the bulbs starting to bloom, a reminder that they be here too in six months or so. Saying that, I noticed that my hyancinths (outdoors, in a pot, in shade) are sending up shoots – far too early!

We still have the spring winds to get through but yes lovely to see the new season’s flowers. Yes it does seem a bit early for your hyacinths!

Bulbs are the best, especially in pots where they can be moved about. Lovely. 🌼

Yes so easy to move about, swap places etc.

How lovely! A spring garden 🙂 It is so smart to have bulbs in pots. I’ve often thought that I should try that, but I never actually done it.

Thank you! The bulbs in pots are good if you know you might move house…

Yes, and I bet it would be easier to protect them from pests as well.

I decided against planting flower bulbs this fall due to the large amount of voles that are messing up the garden.

They go from a tiny sprout to full-open daffs in no time at all!

Our winters are short (well….I think so coming from quite a different climate!!), and spring seems to pop up early.

I always enjoy when I see you spring arriving, it gives me comfort somehow. I especially love the double daff, proper yellow!

The double daff was new this year and am pleased with it.

I love bulbs, particularly crocus and grape hyacinth, they seem to hold the promise of spring.

My crocus are just about finished now, still a couple left. Snowdrops are also a sign of spring, but don’t seem to see them here.

Lovely to see your bulbs in full bloom. I’m just starting to think about my choices for next year! Enjoy them while they’re with you. 😊

You must be excited to see the first flowers of spring arrive! Haven’t you planted grape hyacinths/muscaris?

Oh, fun! It’s always wonderful to compare notes with gardeners in New Zealand and Australia. We’ve had an early cool-down in my part of the Midwestern U.S., but actually the weather is near perfect currently. Light winds, partly cloudy skies, high temps in the range of 20-25C. No complaints. Your blooms are beautiful! Enjoy the transition to spring!

Thank you! After a warm and sunny day yesterday it is pouring with rain today. Lovely to hear from someone in the mid-west.

One of the best things about Six on Saturday is getting Spring twice a year! Also, your blue water homepage image makes me feel instantly relaxed!

Oh, you have tulips coming! Lucky you. We have snowdrops and freesias in bloom in our garden. It’s such a nice feeling to know that today is the last day of winter. Roll on summer, I say!

Yes! Looking forward to the tulips. Snowdrops and freesias are such lovely flowers. Agree – hoorah it is the last day of winter!

I’ve never thought to put bulbs in pots…likely wouldn’t work here in this zone but I sure like the look of yours.

It is nice as you can move them about.

I think pots are a great place to grow bulbs as you can move the pots once the foliage dies back. IT still seems strange to be looking at Spring flowers when we are approaching autumn.

And if you are clever you can make nice arrangements in pots too!
