Friday has come and I am kind of exhausted. It seems such a lot has happened, that there are so many things going on that it has been good to reach the end of the week. So for some random things on Friday….
Remembering
Today is 5 years since my brother Peter died. It was just before the world stopped thanks to Covid, and he was on the other side of the world in Scotland. It was a sad time, a stressful time, a scary time, but also a time to celebrate his life. You can read my blog post about him here.
Dancing – or not
Here is my elegant new foot wear. I won’t be dancing for a while, nor even walking around the city. Ah well….I can feel it is helping, and at least I can take it off to sleep. I have a hospital appointment in a few weeks, and another physiotherapist one next week.

Edibles
I picked up the latest edition of Cuisine magazine, which features a piece on the leading 50 New Zealand women in the food industry. Our own local fabulous pastry chef Maxine Schekter whose book has just come out is on the list. Having watched someone make lavender shortbread on YouTube when I was lying on the sofa with my foot on cushions, I just had to source and buy some culinary lavender. I still need to make the shortbread…. I love tomatoes piled up in this dark blue bowl, and made a ‘leftover’ salad for dinner tonight with baby cos, peaches, tomato and feta with a sprinkle of mixed sesame seeds on top to have with pork schnitzel from our local butcher and potatoes.

So just a short post….more on Monday when hopefully I have a lot more to say!

Have a relaxing weekend, Barbara! I had a fall on Wednesday and have damaged my hand. Not broken, thankfully but sore. It happens so easily.

Thank you! Hope your hand gets better soon.

That horrid-looking boot does work – hope ‘patience’ somehow is part of your current vocabulary! And hope you enjoyed your dinner . . .

It’s good that you have that boot to help with the healing. But still, how tiring it must be to stump around with it. And, how confining. Those red tomatoes look beautiful in the blue bowl. Almost too pretty to eat. Almost…

At least nowadays the treatment is the boot and not a full cast. I can go up and down the stairs at home quite easily at least. I love tomatoes – pretty and tasty!

I’m so sorry to hear about your brother. My brother died 25 years ago, but he’s with me everyday. It’s so hard to lose a beloved sibling. I hope your foot heals soon!

Thanks – my brother was quite a character, but I still. miss him and he was so good with my mum in her last days. I am already bored with my foot 🙂

I am sorry about your mentally exhausting week. Covid has a lot to answer for in the way it spread isolation as well as disease.
I hope that physiotherapy works magic on your foot.

oh dear hope your foot gets better soon. That’s exhausting. A friend just broke hers while on hols in NZ. Gotta watch out! My brother died 2 years ago; the years are flying by. Such a wrench.
take care

I’m being good but can’t let life stop, so went out for dinner tonight, taxi there and back.

I know how hard anniversaries of a loved one’s passing can be. I hope you are going gently and allowing the memories and feeling to flow through you.

Thanks Melissa. As you say, sometimes we are forced to slow down and that is me right now. Little treats are in order!
