Six on Saturday 16.03.24

So we have moved…and here we are in a brand new house, still surrounded by boxes, gradually clearing all the carboard boxes and trying to decide where to put things. I thought I would quickly show you the garden as it is at the moment so you can get an idea of what sort of space we have. Thanks to Jim at Garden Ruminations, for hosting Six on Saturday, whose knowledge of all things plants and gardening makes him an ideal host and move on to what can be see at the moment outside.

The Space

So we actually have a patch of grass to cut! And a good sized clothes drying rack, hose and already in place garden ornaments. It has been really dry here, so no wonder the new lawn is a bit brown at them moment.

…. continued…

There is a nice paved area to sit in the sun, and we enjoyed our first hot cross bun of the season sitting in the sun today.

Hebes

There are a few plants in the borders, including these two hebes.

A small area to grow things

There is also a small bed I can fill up with soil and use it for herbs or other small things which is great. The thyme is one I brought with me.

Still going

The rosemary also made it.

What next?

Well, getting the inside sorted first, but hope to be able to join in SoS again in a couple of weeks.

Hope you are all well and enjoying your gardens in whatever the season is with you.

  1. Even though we are heading for winter, I feel sure you will soon be able to get things growing in your little bed and in pots to take advantage of the sun.

  2. The advantage of a new bare garden is that you will be able to develop it as you wish. I can already imagine a clematis or a climbing plants along this wooden fence! You also have room to add all your aromatic plants. Good luck emptying your boxes

  3. What a nice little yard—our word for garden in the United States. For us, gardens are where plants grow. I have never seen a drying rack like that. What a great idea! And how lovely to have a seating area outside.

  4. I love that drying rack! What a good idea. Your little patch looks very sunny – I suspect you will need a parasol for some shade in the summer months. With it being a rental property I imagine you can’t really do a lot, though there does look room for some decent sized planters for herbs and maybe summer bedding plants. I hope you settle into your new home and that you don’t have to move again for a long while!

    1. The drying rack is great and holds a lot of things (so I have discovered!). Yes a parasol is likely to be needed for summer – we even felt that yesterday afternoon. It was nice of the owner to make that little space for a small bed for plants. And now we don’t have to climb up 89 steps to the house we can think about larger planters.

  5. I find it astonishing that anyone in the middle of a move, or looking to move, or just settling in, finds time and energy to keep up a blog post! Congratulations on such a quick and successful move, and good wishes for good times in your new home.

    1. Thanks for the wishes! There are still lots of boxes to unpack but we have a couple of what I call ‘oases of calm’ where you can just look at things already in place. Or just sit in the garden!
