We have lost Internet connection, so using data from my phone and my iPad today, so a brief post for two of our visit this past weekend to Melbourne. After visiting two museums on Friday, we thought we would do something different, and with the sun shining we jumped on a tram and went off to the seashore.
St Kilda
I think this may be the third time we have visited the coastal area of St Kilda. It is easily accessible from the city centre by tram, and makes a nice change of scene if you are in the city for a few days. The entrance to the Luna Park fun fair is a must to see, with its grotesque face with an open mouth. The theatre across the way is also an interesting building.

We took a walk along the seafront, enjoying the sun, the view and lots of dogs having heaps of fun running into the sea, catching balls and shaking their wet fur all over their owners.
Lunch in town
We decided to go back into town for lunch, stopping off for some pasta and a glass of wine (we were on holiday) at a place on Hardware Lane. The buildings opposite must have been warehouses at one point I guess.

Sunday
On Sunday, with grey skies overhead in contrast to Saturday, we walked over to the famous Victoria Street Market, which we have also visited before. It is always a great place to go to, with stalls selling everything from leather belts to veggies to wonderful looking olives. It is just as well that I couldn’t take any food items back!

We didn’t have time to visit the Melbourne Museum, but took a walk around Carlton Gardens and the 19th century Royal Exhibition Centre.

It was then time to head for the airport and enjoy a relaxing glass of wine in the Air New Zealand lounge.

What marvelous pictures! Certainly makes me want to visit Melbourne. I have been reading about the terrible weather New Zealand has been having, and I hope all is well where you live.

It was a great trip. We are fine here in Wellington, just catching a couple of days of rain. Luckily it had been very dry beforehand. Hawke’s Bay and Tairawhiti are a disaster zone.

I’ve read and seen the disaster. I made sure to double check where Wellington is and hoped you were away from the worst of it. Glad you were.

Your second post on Melbourne reminds me I haven’t been there for too long, considering my sister and her husband live there! Great shots of St Kilda and Hardware Lane is always a good spot for a meal 🙂 Loved it!
