If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would be celebrating the return of hot water. I tell you that the workmen took all day but that the thought of a lovely, warm shower before bed sounds like heaven.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would be sipping on Earl Grey tea and enjoying scones made with dried strawberries. I say I got the inspiration from Melissa Clark’s Strawberry Scone Loaf, but just made my true and trusted basic scone recipe from my true and trusted Be-Ro cook book, using buttermilk instead of milk. You say that they taste really good and I say I really like these dried strawberries and wouldn’t they be good in granola. You say yes.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about the weather, about some beautiful sunny days with bright blue skies that lift the spirits.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about the news, about how there was very little to smile about..another school shooting, Ukraine….

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about what we have been reading, watching and listening to. I say there are so many good podcasts and series to follow that sometimes it is hard to decide what to choose – and you agree.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would naturally ask you to stay for dinner. It is nothing fancy, I say, just a tortellini soup with some bread and cheese, and you say that sounds good, just as well I have a bottle of red wine with me. We laugh and settle down for the evening ahead.

  1. Having Earl Grey tea and scones with you sounds a pleasant way to pass the afternoon – to be followed by soup … I am making butternut soup for lunch today 🙂

  2. You’ve painted a wonderful image in my head. You got my response wrong about the strawberry scones, though. I would have been saying I wished dried strawberries were cheaper! I love dried fruit.

  3. If we had an afternoon together. I would like to thank you for this lovely day, by giving you a bag full of LoveCrunch granola, which is sprinkled with dried strawberries, as you have amazing hospitality.

      1. Thank you! Truly, I was just thinking, if I ever get to NZ, that I would want to invite myself over for a cup of tea and conversation. I so appreciate the invitation! It might be time for me to inspect my bucket list….

  4. Hurray for the return of hot water!!!! these conveniences we so often don’t even think about … until they are not there.

Thank you for the cuppa and the lovely strawberry scones. Dried strawberries sound a great idea – I always think that fresh aren’t intense enough in baked goods … dried would be little powerhouses of flavour!

  5. I’m glad to hear you’ve got your hot water back. Earl Grey tea and strawberry scone, yum! Your dinner plan sounds delicious, too. I should ask which red wine is your favourite so I can bring you a bottle next time we meet. Thank you for linking up with #weekendcoffeeshare.

  6. Mmmm, scones. Now I want to go to my favorite coffee shop and get some.

I hear you about the podcasts and series. I don’t have much free time to listen/watch, and when I do, I get overwhelmed by all the options.

  7. What a wonderful feeling to get hot water back when it’s been gone! I don’t read much news myself, only enough to keep updated with what’s going on but I try to focus on the good things. Last night we joined a music session in a pub and there was a group of people there from Ukraine, and when the singer who leads the session heard they were from Ukraine, he smiled and said “Welcome to Ireland”, and we all nodded in agreement. That was so heartwarming and I hope Ukrainian refugees are treated like that everywhere.

  8. The strawberry Scone Loaf looks and sounds delicious. I would love a slice with my coffee this morning.

Podcasts, these weren’t my thing. But I recently started an online writer’s related course and a bunch of the lessons are from a podcast. It’s actually lovely to listen to and I appreciate being able to move around and do dishes or laundry…well I listen. Its my new thing.

    Thanks for the virtual coffee.

  9. I subscribe to so many podcasts and growing, but there are three I go through daily and that’s enough for my daily drive to and from work. All the other podcasts are played when I do housework — but that is if my kid isn’t asking me to entertain her.
