It really feels autumnal now, with chilly mornings and evenings. Autumns here are lovely, almost extending the summer with calm, sunny days and days to be outside, and indeed, we have been having some really good weather this week. I’m still waiting for my bulbs to arrive, but see that they are only just getting ready to plant in the Botanic Gardens so fingers crossed I am not too late. Anyway, time for Six on Saturday when The Propagator encourages us to share what is going on in our gardens in all parts of the world. Check out the participant guide if you want to join in.
First up, the camellias we share with our neighbours are looking absolutely gorgeous right now. I can see lots of buds on the other bushes around the house so expect more in the weeks to come.
When we came home last Sunday to this beautiful dahlia. After almost giving up on all the dahlias, it was lovely to see this beauty welcoming us with its happy smile. It is just one, loan bloom but it really cheered me up.
Another surprise was seeing a couple of late blooming alstroemeria or Peruvian lilies, providing a lovely splash of yellow.
Over to herb corner, and this week we have another picture of my thriving rosemary, some more beautiful flowers on the borage and the thyme ‘ruby carpet’ is spreading in its pot. It would be a good ground cover if I had the right sort of space.
Back to yellow flowers, and this week’s mahonia update. The plants are at the side of the house, and personally think they look good against the blue walls of the house.
Finally – of course – this week’s pictures of the tecomanthe speciosa or Three King’s Vine. You have to admit, these are gorgeous, and I feel so lucky to have these in our garden.
So, as usual, I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s beautiful gardens in other parts of the world. Hope you are all well and enjoying your gardens in whatever the season is with you.

I enjoy autumn too. Once our lawn has been mowed and the beds finally rid of tussocks of grass I plan to try my luck with sowing some winter vegetables …

Yes the colour is wonderful! I love the Mahonia!! My overwintered rosemary seems to have died this year, after four years of wintering indoors….

One of my rosemary plants looked like it was on its last legs, so I cut it back and fed it some fertilisier and it bounced back. Maybe give it another go?

That’s a good tip! Mine overwintered and is struggling. I’ll follow your advice!

The thyme ruby carpet is looking very vigorous. I love the sulphurous spikes of mahonia blossoms.

Yes that thyme is growing really well – very pleased with it so far. You are so right about the colour of the mahonia!

That mahonia looks rather magnificent and the dahlia is lovely. I had a bad year with dahlias last summer.

My dahlias developed a fungal infection, which has cleared up but decimated my plants, so I feel very lucky to have this one bloom.

What lovely colours although not what I think of as autumnal.🤔 The masonic is good against the house, as you say. (No nasturtiums?)

I haven’t had as good a display of nasturtiums this year. Very disappointing to be honest!

Sorry, the “mahonia”, that predictive text can be very annoying and wrong!

I guessed what it was! I hate predictive text too.

Beautiful flowers! I love how camellias bloom twice. I’ve been enjoying a fallen bloom floating in a bowl of water. It gives me joy each time I see it. Good luck with your bulbs and thanks for sharing more of your magnificent Three Kings Vine. (If you keep showing it, I’ll keep saying it!)
