The second half of Wellington on a Plate is given over to Burger Wellington, a veritable festival of all things burger. There are all sorts on offer: beef, chicken, venison…and the sweet. We returned to Field & Green this week for their Brick Lane burger…and a couple of other treats too.

We decided to start with the black pudding croquette with apple sauce this week. As black pudding lovers, this was a delight. It wasn’t your slice as part of a full breakfast, being much lighter and softer. The apple sauce cut through the strong flavours as a perfect complement. We drank a vermouth with this to start our meal.

The burger this year from one of our favourite places to eat in Wellington was an Anglo-Indian-spiced fried chicken with Coronation curried coleslaw in a Shelly Bay Bakery milk bun, served with papadum and raita. This was a spicy burger, full of flavour, with moist pieces of chicken and an excellent old fashioned curry coleslaw that was a perfect match. I loved the pairing of papadum and cooling raita as well.

So, the verdict? Once again Laura Greenfield and team have produced wonderful food, full of memories, flavours and clever combinations.

That is some burger. How the heck did you eat it? You must have had to cut it in pieces.

That all looks so delicious, although I’m not a lover of black pudding.
