This week’s small pleasures #199

I think that we can all agree that some weeks are better than others, and last week was not a particularly good week. I had a rather upset stomach and felt generally under the weather. A bit of time at home and being well looked after by Charlie the cat, meant that by Friday evening I had regained my appetite. Anyway, despite this, there were some small pleasures such as these white parrot tulips. I just love the twisty shapes.

A tulip
And a bunch of tulips

With the aim restoring my appetite (good excuse), I ordered bread again this week from Arobake: there was a twisty zopf, a sourdough loaf, a few semmel rolls and rhubarb and custard tarts for our weekend sweet treat. Small pleasures indeed. I made this really tasty salmon fillets recipe for dinner on Saturday and Rachel Khoo’s take on beef bourguignon on Sunday (without the dumplings), my appetite fully restored.

Among the podcasts I have enjoyed this week is the ABC Radio series Conversations which continues to entertain. The interviews are with a wide variety of people from all sorts of backgrounds, all interesting. There is a large back catalogue that is worth searching too. We have been enjoying Mrs America in the evenings. So well made and acted it is definitely worth catching.

Sunday afternoon

So that is it for this week. Wherever you are, take care and look out for those little things that make you smile. What were your small pleasures of the week just past?

Check out what is making Notes from the Hinterland happy too.

Thanks to Mani over at A New Life Wandering for the original idea.

  1. Thanks for the mention and the link to my blog! That bread looks fabulous. I have been wanting to see “Mrs. America,” but it’s not available on any of the streaming services we subscribe too. The podcast Conversations sounds exactly like something I’d like to listen to. I’ll be listening soon.

  2. Top three this week: birthday cake, a surprise self-seeded sunflower and having my daughter home for a while.
I’m glad that you’re feeling better. You’re right that life’s little things are especially important, and more so when we are feeling under the aimsir.
