If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would decide from the outset to avoid politics. Instead, we talk about the weather, about how it is so changeable, even from morning to lunch time like today, when I walked to work with a rain jacket and came home with shirt sleeves rolled up.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about flowers, about the display in the Botanic Gardens, by the wayside, in our gardens. We would agree that we love summer. I say I would still like to learn more about flower arranging, and still have not done so. You smile.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would tell you that I stopped off at Arty Bees and picked up some more detective novels for the summer. I would tell you that I have a huge pile of books to keep me going through the holidays, and you say you are just the same. I tell you I am just finishing re-reading the first of the Martin Beck series, which I am enjoying just as much third time around. You say you must pick them up and give them a go.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about our Christmas plans and what we will eat. We also talk about our plans for the summer, and I say how happy I am that I don’t have to go back to work until 13th January. It is important for people in the northern hemisphere to remember that Christmas is the start of our summer holidays.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would say to you the weather is too nasty to go home just yet, why not stay for a Campari and soda and dinner? You, of course, say yes.

I have heard many of the Martin Beck stories on audio CDs.
I really like them.

You bet I’d say yes. After all that has happened this week, not sure I could avoid talking about politics, though. But I’ll end on a happier note: Enjoy your summer holidays. In Maine, winter has begun, and we have frost on the windows. Very cold right now.

Wrap up warm! Yes I think at the moment politics is a subject hard to avoid.

I’m afraid I’m not a Summer person really, I much prefer Autumn or Spring.
