A Saturday in Autumn

After a wet and wild night, the weather turned to autumn sunshine, much to Charlie’s delight, as he had been forced to use the litter tray as it was just too wet for him to venture outside.  And it was much to my delight too as I set off as usual for Pilates, not having to worry about getting soaked on the way.

As usual, my Pilates class was excellent, though interrupted on occasion by the banging down of weights by those putting themselves through a Cross Fit class in the new place that has opened below.  I can’t think of a greater contrast to Pilates than Cross Fit…anyway, it was then time to pick up some food for the week.  It’s the time of year to enjoy silverbeet, oranges and other delights, and pick up some more feta and capers.

Some of this week’s shopping

The afternoon was spent catching up on old comedy shows on BBC Radio 4, re-reading a favourite Barbara Pym, and drinking the amazing, and suitable for autumn, creme brulee tea from t leaf T.

Tea and a good book

We actually went out on Saturday night for the first time in ages.  For dinner, we tried the newly opened 1154 Pastaria, so called as apparently the first mention of pasta was in a book from that year.  Karl had the Pappardelle Alla Bolognese, and I opted for the Tortelloni with a spinach and ricotta filling and served with sage brown butter and toasted hazelnuts.  Both were really good, and the garlic and rosemary bread was great to mop up the sauces.

Dinner time

We stopped of for a quick beer at the Black Dog Brewery  bar which has just moved to Cuba Street, before heading to see Lloyd Langford performing as part of the NZ Comedy Festival.

Comedy time

He was performing at Te Auaha, the centre for the creative arts programmes of the two local polytechnics, Whitireia and WelTec.  I had been wanting to see inside the building since it opened, so was glad to get an opportunity, albeit limited.

Inside Te Auaha

And then it was home, and yes I did watch part of the wedding, staying up for the service at least.  Did you?
