Blogmas 2017 Day 9: Food

Today we picked up our supply of Swedish food for Christmas. With a fridge now full of different herrings, and a bag of lollies (sweets, candies) and biscuits secreted away, I guess we are well on our way to getting things together for our Christmas Eve feast.  Our smörgåsbord always has different herrings, ham, sausages, meatballs, smoked salmon, breads and this year I am going to do devilled eggs for fun.  Oh and of course, potatoes and Janssons Frestelse (see recipe from last year’s blogmas here).

But of course it is summer here….so our food basket today was also filled with fruits of the season.  Tomorrow is the second Sunday in Advent, and Anton arrives from Denmark for a holiday.  I expect there’ll be something involving the beautiful looking tomatoes in the featured image and below for dinner tomorrow.

The first of the stone fruit is in the shops, so I couldn’t resist some peaches and nectarines, along with my current weekly bundle of asparagus.

What are you planning to eat this Christmas? Traditional or something different?  I’m just glad we don’t have to cook a turkey!

You can find Thistles and Kiwis on Facebook, and also on Instagram @thistleandkiwis.  As for Twitter….am totally inactive these days.  If you want to get in touch, email me on
