Sunny Sunday at Newtown Fair

One of the early autumn events on the calendar in Wellington is the Newtown Fair. The fair is organised by the local residents’ association and is a celebration of the diverse community in this suburb of Wellington.  As in past years when we have gone, the event has been held on a lovely, sunny day, and as usual, the event is heaving with people. There are stages with local bands and musicians, loads of craft, food and other stalls, including ones from political parties, local organisations and of course, a civil defence van.

We grabbed some lunch from Fat PoBoys. I had the Fat Hog, which was filled with the softest pork belly and two salads as well as mustard.  Karl’s also had bacon and a spicy sauce.  Gosh they were so good!  Perfect fair and street food.

We saw these giant puppets which were made at the Rangiwahia Environmental Arts Centre, being walked down the street.  They are made form sustainable and reused resources and the whole set represent women of Aotearoa New Zealand.

We finished our visit with a Garage Project beer, sitting outside on hay bales at Bebemos, enjoying the afternoon sun.  In a couple of weeks it is Cuba Dupa, so hope the weather is as good then.
