More sun, more sea and Waitangi Weekend

Friday was Waitangi Day and a holiday here in New Zealand.  It has been great to have a long weekend to catch up on things in the house (much needed I can say), read and enjoy the sunshine.

Some of my regular readers may remember a trip we did in October to Lake Ferry, a small place between the shores of Lake Onoke and Palliser Bay.  Yesterday, Saturday, we paid a return visit.  It was a glorious sunny summer day, and the drive over the hills was really beautiful.  We had lunch as before at the Lake Ferry Hotel (I even had whitebait fritter again), and took a walk, loving the huge waves that came crashing onto the shore.

I think this is one of my favourite spots in New Zealand.  There is just something about the sea, the black sand and the surrounding landscape that just fills me with a positive feeling.

From there, we drove over to Martinborough, stopping briefly at this little church that sits by the road on the way.  Burnside Presbyterian Church was built in 1875, on land gifted to local settlers.
