Thoughts on Friday

What a glorious sunny day it has been. The skies are blue and there is a lightness in the air, especially as we approach a three day weekend, for Monday in New Zealand is the Labour Day holiday. The day marks the campaign for an eight-hour working day, a demand first won locally in 1840 by Wellington carpenter Samuel Parnell. It became a statutory holiday in 1900 under the Labour Day Act.

It was a beautiful sunny day, so I picked up some sushi and headed to Midland Park, where I sat with my book, listening to a young man playing his guitar, a perfect break in the day.

Friday afternoons at work are always hard. the watch says 1pm…then 1:40pm…then 2:30pm…then 3pm…3:20pm…3:40pm…and finally 4pm which is my normal time to pack up and leave the office. We often stop at our local butcher on the way home, but with Karl heading off to Seoul on Sunday (a work trip in case you ask), there was not a huge need to fill up a bag of things for the weekend and week ahead (especially as I have to go to Auckland…also work…). No Wonky Box was delivered either, so no need to stress about broccoli overload this week.

Wine was delivered however, and we enjoyed some with pizza as it is Friday after all. The shopping list has been written for tomorrow (I will need some things for the week ahead) blogs caught up with and another episode of Endeavour, the old series about young Inspector Morse.

The weekend has begun…
