I have, in the past, written a few posts about my favourite cafés in Wellington. It took me far too long to find the right spot in Hamburg, but here in Stockholm, I have already found the place and it is only around the corner. Of course, there are others I need to investigate, but let’s start local.
Haga Bageri or more correctly Haga Tårtcompani & Bageri, a bakery and patisserie who make cakes to order, very nice bread (we’ve enjoyed some for breakfast this week) and of course good things for fika (the essential coffee break – I’ll show you what I tried on Monday). They also have a range of crackers, teas and other produce for sale.
We had also heard that they did very good sandwiches, so on Friday I popped into the café part of the bakery shop to try it out, and also to sense the atmosphere. There are candles, flickering and giving off a cosy warmth, cushions, comfortable seating, and a sense you could sit here for a while (I was careful not to take pictures of the others sitting there this time). There is a constant buzz of activity at the bread and pastry counter, but sitting here you are just far enough away to enjoy the comings and goings but also have a quiet moment.
I ordered the tuna melt, as regular readers will know this is not only a sandwich I like but also one I compare. This was up there with the best. The bread of course was excellent, and the filling just right with a hint of chilli.
Naturally I will return, to buy bread, perhaps a treat, and to try another sandwich. Coffee is good, staff are friendly, and to have a place like this so close to where we are staying is an added bonus.

It is also good being in a part of town we don’t know as it makes us try different things.

I am so glad you have found a place-away-from-home for a coffee and a treat and a quiet ‘sussing’ of who live around you! The place looks VERY Swedish – simple but stylish – candles always and just simple leaves and flowers . . . enjoy 🙂 !

I like such a cafe as this … eat a sandwich then buy a cookie, a pastry or a loaf of bread. Delicious.
