Postcards from Hamburg 4

We are heading into our final week here in Hamburg and I can’t believe it. Time has flown by so quickly, and our new routines have become so established that it will seem odd to change them again. Hamburg has been quiet, peaceful, new and interesting. We have watched spring establish itself, with the typical mix of weather one would expect in this part of the world. Compare the pictures below to those of when we first arrived.

Walking around on Thursday, I spotted another face with what looks like fangs….

…and this somehow charming spot…and ducks above a doorway.

I walked down a different street home, and found this beautiful door at the side of the museum.

This time next week we will be in Stockholm…time for a couple more posts before we leave…

  1. So many things to see and notice. It has been a joy to go around with you. The buildings are fascinating, and that door is a beauty. Look forward to seeing more of Hamburg, but Stockholm sounds very enticing, and I am looking forward to that, too.

    1. We have really enjoyed our time here. Only a few more days to go but a couple of things planned. Stockholm will be different as we have been many times before but usually just for a few days to visit family not actually living there.

  2. It sounds as if you have made the most of your time in Hamburg. My ex husband came from there so I know it well. I was amazed to read about a wolf attacking a woman in Altona a couple of weeks ago. Where on earth did it come from?

    1. We have enjoyed our time here. Yes the wolf…only 5 minutes walk from where we are staying too! They think it escaped from a wild life park. Poor creature must have been very distressed.

  3. You’ve made the most of your time there. It’s gone so fast. I’m looking forward to seeing more of Stockholm with you. We only had the one day on our Baltic Sea cruise and would definitely like to return. We spent our day at the Abba Museum and the Vasa Museum, both amazing with very different subjects.

    1. I can’t believe how fast time has flown. Before you know it we will be flying back to Wellington! We have both been to Stockholm on numerous occasions, usually for family visits as my husband’s brothers live there (as well as many cousins), but this time we will be ‘living’ there and in a part of town we don’t know. The Vasa museum is great.

  4. I had to look twice before seeing the ducks above the doorway – I had been distracted by the disappointing display of graffiti. The postcards have been fascinating: enjoy Stockholm!

  5. There’s something quietly moving about this. You arrive, everything feels new, then slowly a rhythm forms… and just when it starts to feel like yours, it’s time to leave. Those blossoms almost feel like the city opening up at the exact moment you’re stepping away. Beautiful, and a little bittersweet

  6. I love cobblestone streets. I often think about all the labour going into making them. The details on the doors you shared are very beautiful.

    Happy travels!
