Postcards from Hamburg 3

So for the third set of postcards, let’s go to the city centre, to one of the main shopping areas, and see what there is going on. On Easter Monday, things were naturally very quiet, just a few people, mostly tourists I guess wandering about. At least it gave me a good opportunity to get a picture of the memorial to those from the city who lost their lives in World War 1.

We even spotted some wild life…well, 2 Easter bunnies and a couple of curious geese.

We also noted this street, named after Karl Lagerfeld, who was born in Hamburg. The street sign is slightly off centre – that wasn’t me leaning over.

We also walked past the Handelskammer Hamburg (Chamber of Commerce) building, a rather magnificant edifice.

Today I jumped on the S train again with the goal of some specific shopping, on my own, with no sense of someone waiting for me. Below you can see the water jet and a view towards Neuer Wall where a lot of the more high end shops can be found.

The first picture below is crossing over to Neuer Wall and the second is on the other side. The shop on the corner, surrounded by fencing, was where I was headed. Just say, I found a couple of things there that were just me.

  1. I’m really enjoying seeing Hamburg with you. It makes me want to pack my bags and pop over. The war memorial is a sombre piece of work, appropriate for its subject I guess. I’m not a bit shopper but I quite enjoy shopping on my own when I’m hoping to pick up something nice or special.

    1. Thank you! I had a ‘list’ of things I wanted to look for while being here to take advantage of better/wider variety of shops, and I know the shops I like. I still have one thing on my list and may leave that for Stockholm.

  2. Interesting to see what the city looks like . . . thanks! Shopping – prefer my own company whenever possible . . . we all do it best in our own tempo! But now we need a photo ‘with the jacket’ 🙂 !
