If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would be enjoying a freshly baked scone along with our tea. You would say how nice, just the thing.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would tell you we have now been in New Zealand for 13 years. You say gosh…how time flies.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea… we would talk about what we had been cooking and eating, from my experiment with hasselback potatoes to the Swedish curd cake I made.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about books we have read recently, about how I am going to read when we are away (I’m a physical book person and will have to read on my phone or iPad).

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about the awful weather we have had but how nice it is to see the sun back again, and the bright blue skies.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about the cinema and how we have seen three films already this year – you smile and say how lovely.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would of course talk about our forthcoming adventure, about our plans, our ideas, and how it seems that every weekend is already filled. You laugh and say make time for yourselves to do nothing too and you agree, after all this is a work adventure for Karl and not a holiday. You agree.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would say would you like to stay for dinner? It is going to be very simple – just some chicken. You say that sounds good, so we settle down for an evening of food, wine and conversation.

      1. LOL…I have a Bluetooth ring I wear on my finger. I tap it to turn the page. Who knew that I would end up like this after 30 plus years of teaching reading to first graders? I started when chalkboards were still around!

  6. Does New Zealand feel like home now? 13 years is a long time. Where do you see yourself retire? 10-20 years ago I could see myself retire in a small cottage somewhere with a mediterranean climate, but with the climate changes I am not so sure. I appreciate Sweden more every year. It was lovely to have tea with you.

    1. Yes New Zealand does feel like home. We sometimes miss Europe – so it will be interesting to see how we feel at the end of our sojourn in Germany and Sweden. I am already dreaming of having a choice of herrings and proper Kalles (the one with dill!) when we are in Sweden 🙂

  7. That scone looks lovely. I would join you with my mug of tea in hand. I would be saying how cold it has been here. Sometimes freezing here in the UK.

    We had a very wet day one day last week. Today, a quick peek out my window and a dusting of snow. So, my walking shoes will be on and not my trainers I was originally having in mind before I set out to work tgus morning.

  8. Oh I do fancy a scone now Barbara, I’ve got the cup of tea just ready! I haven’t been to the movies for ages, I must rectify that. We’re sweltering over here at the moment.

      1. Yes we are but with lots of indoor activities like reading and blogging -suits me just fine! I go to exercises in the morning and aqua aerobics on two afternoons a week and cool off a bit!

      1. ahhhh, so I just read that American biscuits are generally called scones in Europe (and apparently also New Zealand) … no wonder they look just like my American biscuits. too funny!

        1. American biscuits and scones are made differently I believe – am no expert as have never had an American biscuit – just what I have seen. I make drop scones which are a type of pancake….let’s not go there!
