If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea….we would reflect on the year gone by…on what a fellow blogger called my ‘moonboot era’ (best forgotten, but a lot learned), on both good news and bad news from friends and family and the world in general.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about some of ‘cultural’ highlights of the year. In the world of dance, there was the wonderful performance by the Royal New Zealand Ballet with Scottish Ballet earlier in the year, and seeingLa Fille mal Gardée on film and the fun New Zealand set The Nutcracker. We saw a few things on The French Film Festival such as Jane Austen Wrecked My Life, The Thread, Riviera Revenge, The French Job, as well as the excellent Holy Cow (Vingt Deux). We saw Rental Family on Boxing Day which we enjoyed. As for the small screen….hard to pick a highlight.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would say that I got to the theatre a few times, including this year’s panto and of course World of Wearable Art. There was the Vivienne Westwood exhibition at the start of the year, a discussion about detective fiction at our local library, and we enjoyed the British comedian John Bishop doing stand up.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about our plans for 2026, about how we are setting some goals but also go with the flow as who knows what the future holds.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about our word of the year and I say mine is ‘adventure’ and you say a good choice.

If we were….drinking champagne we would toast the new year and wish everyone out there a very happy 2026.

  1. Happy new year and I wore a boot like that for about 3 months in 2015. I had major surgery on my left foot and could not even stand on it for the first month (found a great knee scooter for that – woo hoo!), then the boot for several months after to make sure everything healed. Now I have a screw/pin for a toe and a huge metal plate in my foot. oh joy – at least I can still walk. Hee hee.

  2. My moon boot year was 2019, after I rolled my ankle and a ligament pulled lots of pieces off two bones. Ouch! All good now, just like yours hopefully. 🙂

We’re fortunate to have so much to look forward to. Best wishes to you and Karl for 2026.

  3. Adventure is a good word. I was pondering whether to do a WOTY theme. I haven’t got into that type of post; I am more random in my subject natter. I might give it a go for a bit of fun.

  5. Such a lovely, cozy reflection — it really does feel like sitting down for a long coffee (or tea) and chatting about life, culture, and hopes for what’s ahead.Wishing you a gentle, curious, and joy-filled year ahead 🥂✨
