We’ll start today’s post with the good news that I don’t need to wear the moon boot any more. Of course, I now have months of physio, but step one is going back to normal shoes on both feet. This pleases me no end, though I have to say it did feel very strange to begin with. I did manage to get to the library to return a book and pick up one I had on order with quite a bit of effort and the comfort use of the crutch. This is going to take time.

It was good being home as I could take in a parcel of cheese from Over the Moon which will go towards Sunday lunch, and put together a pot of pea soup (with leek, carrots and mushrooms to use up things in the fridge before the next Wonky Box arrives).

To celebrate my freedom, I also made the suitably autumnal sounding Spiced Pear & Semolina Cake from Tilly Pamment’s wonderful book The Plain Cake Appreciation Society. I honestly don’t think I have ever baked with semolina before (visions of semolina pudding anyone? Probably showing my age and where I grew up in that statement…..), but the cake turned out really well The cake also used chai tea, which I don’t have, so substituted tLeafT’s Monk’s Blend which I love, cardamom and vanilla.

Verdict? Excellent – we both really enjoyed the warming flavours. Make again? Yes. Apologies for the picture below which had to be taken in artificial light as we ate the cake for dessert.

It was also a day to book tickets for events, catch up on a bit of life admin and settle down to a good new detective novel before watching an adaptation of a Camilla Lackberg novel on Netflix.

How fabulous that you get to walk with two normal shoes! That foot must have felt really light!

It was a good cake and as you say, very seasonal. My foot does feel quite odd and ‘free’.

Is the Netflix series called “The Glass Dome”? If so, what did you think of it? That cake looks delicious. The pea soup sounds good, too. Last but not least…yay for not having to wear the boot anymore!

Yes it is that series – well, typical Camilla Lackberg really – it is OK. At least there is no shouting style of delivery as in some US dramas! The soup and cake were good even though I say so myself. But having no moon boot is best of all.

Your hips and knees will be happy to walk more normally. It will take time to adjust. Most people who fracture a bone never want to hear that it takes a full year to recovery, but that’s the truth. That cake looks delicious!

Yes – my body will be so glad to get back to normal. The doctor told me 6 months but it does take a long time to recover. I have psyched myself up for that! The cake was good I admit,

That looks like just my kind of cheese box. A semolina cake sounds interesting. We eat quite a lot of semolina pudding.

They do make very good cheese. I haven’t had semolina pudding since my mum made it – maybe time to revive (and to use up all the semolina….).
