Thistles and Kiwis

The sun has been shining all day, the sky was bright blue and the birds were all singing loudly – tuī one minute, kākā the next, with ducks and blackbirds adding their pennyworth to the avian conversation. To be honest, I haven’t really got a lot to report on, but I was out doing a bit of weeding, and thought I would take a few photos while I was at it. Thanks to Jim at Garden Ruminations, for hosting Six on Saturday, whose knowledge of all things plants and gardening makes him an ideal host and move on to what can be see at the moment outside. 

1 Silver bush – convolvulus 

This plant was already in the garden when we moved in, and it is lovely to see it flowering so well. The blooms are really pretty when they close in the evening too.

2 The rosemary

My old rosemary plant seems to love its new position and is thriving so far. This brings me so much joy.

3 Thyme

I use this herb quite a bit in cooking, so it is great to have three plants to pick leaves from. The one on the right is a new one bought after we moved here, and really doing well.

4 Tarragon

It is great to see both tarragon plants come back to live after their winter hibernation. Looks like I should get a decent crop again this year – fingers crossed!

5 Cactus

I know this is indoors, and I know I have featured it before, but I just cannot resist these bright pink flowers that pop open on our sunny living room window.

6 Clematis paniculata

Finally, the beautiful flowers of this native clematis. No more words are necessary – just enjoy.

  1. This clematis is not only beautiful, but above all very flowery according to the photos you show us this morning. It doesn’t look very tall and has given a lot of flowers. Bravo! I also like the detail of the petals of the convolvulus flowers and these wrinkled edges

  9. P.S. On another subject…On your suggestion, I am reading Raven Black by Ann Cleeves.I am nearly 70 pages in and I really like it: good writing and good characters, absolute requirements for me whatever the genre. Thanks for the suggestion!

  12. Hi Barbara your herbs are growing so well. My rosemary hasn’t bloomed although it is looking healthy enough. My thyme isn’t blooming either and is just starting to come back to life again. Thanks for sharing your six on saturday with us at #WeekendTrafficJamReboot. x
