It has been a lovely sunny day today, with blue skies all day, lifting sprits and bringing smiles to our faces. I hung out some laundry to dry in the spring sunshine, and headed out for my usual Pilates class. Then it was off to one of my favourite cafes, Squirrel, for lunch, admiring the poppy on the table and enjoying a Maude’s Chicken Sandwich (chicken, creme fraiche, almonds, capers and lots of rocket, the sandwich is called after the owner’s dog).
Then it was over the road and a short walk along the waterfront to Te Papa to see a couple of exhibitions. The first of these was Generation X: 50 Artworks from the Chartwell Collection. It seemed to me that a lot of the works were influenced by Bridget Riley. The video installation of the plane window was fun.
However, the main reason for the visit was to see the national Ringa Toi Student Exhibition, which showcases student artists within secondary schools heading for their set of final school exams. This is the ninth year of the exhibition, and is made up of a variety of disciplines in Māori and Pacific art. This was excellent, and I was so impressed with many of the works, especially some of the photography. The fully illustrated catalogue was a bonus, and the exhibition was a true celebration of the students’ work.

Today (25 September) is our 20th wedding anniversary. Here we are looking much younger outside Frederiksberg Town Hall. In case you are wondering, I am 5’6″ and my husband is 6’6″ (approximately!).

To celebrate the day, we went out for dinner to a favourite place, Floriditas. We had little garlic bread rolls and bite sized Red Leicester cheese doughnuts to start with a glass of sauvignon blanc. Karl then had the steak, and I had the lamb ragu with bucatini, alongside some asparagus on the side to share. We also had a glass of syrah each.

So all in all a lovely day….also entered in Wednesday Words and Whimsy hosted by Min of Write by the Middle.

Congratulations on the 20th, we are reaching 21 in a couple of weeks time. Looks like you had a lovely meal to celebrate. The waterfront area looks very nice, I could happily sit there and watch the world go by.

happy anniversary. yes my hubby is way taller than me too. People often say they recognise us from behind due to the height difference 🙂 Must go to NZ again someday; we loved Te Papa.

What a pleasant way to celebrate your wedding anniversary! We celebrated our 50th last year with two of our three children and their families in Norway, again with our son in Scotland, and again with a wonderful group of friends at home on the actual day. I wish you many happy years journeying together.
