If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about July, about the good and the bad of the month gone by. I would offer you a freshly baked scone and you say that sounds good and that with a cup of tea always lifts the spirits. You agree. (If you can see the featured image at the top of the post, you can see one there too). I say I have made a long list of ‘life admin’ things to be done and gradually ticking things off. You say good – that is your act of courage for the month.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would tell you that French classes started again this week and I really like the new teacher. I also went to two French language films in July, so trying to keep the language in my brain (though I still switch to Danish if I can’t remember the French when I am speaking….). You smile.
If we were having a coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about how the mornings are getting brighter and that there are so many signs of spring about already, such as the crocus in our garden. You say isn’t there supposed to be a ‘polar blast’? And I say well if so, it certainly isn’t here today and you agree.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea… I would ask you if you had seen some of the new words and phrases added to the Cambridge Dictionary? You so no I must go and look.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about books we had read, food we had cooked and eaten and the forthcoming film festival and Wellington on a Plate. You say there is a lot going on and I agree.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea I would say, would you like to stay for dinner? I’m making sausages (bought from our local butcher) with puy lentils and some red Brussels sprouts on the side. And you say yes. So we settle down to cook, eat and drink some wine and carry on the conversation into the night.

Scones and tea, what can be better!
Good luck with your French, and I was interested to know you could use Danish to help you with some French words. Very handy.

Ah no quite the opposite…sometimes I can only think of Danish words and no French words, It doesn’t help at all!

I understand re Danish words. We watched Borgen on SBS (loved it) but the Danish language sounded a bit tricky to learn!

I lived in Denmark for 8.5 years and made and attempt to learn the language, so my default ‘foreign language setting’ in my brain is still Danish even though I did 6 years of French at school – but that was a long time ago!

Yes the crocus is in a pot. We moved them from the house we had to move on to our what turned out to be a temporary home to where we are now so I am so pleased they came up this year.

Yes…spring is only a month away. The red brussels look pretty but I think they are not so bitter as the traditional green ones. I’ve seen a lot more around this year.

You would be most welcome! I paid special attention to eating the red sprouts yesterday, and they are not so ‘bitter’ as green ones. They are still sprouts though!

That scone does look delicious! I bet it is rather exciting to see some sign of spring… of course that means fall/winter will be approaching here and I am not looking forward to that at all.

Thank you! Yes it is exciting to see signs of spring though we are expecting more wintery weather (though in my opinion, winters are quite mild here having lived in Scotland and Denmark!).

We saw ‘A Silence’, ‘The President’s Wife’ and ‘The Taste of Things’ and also the latest Woody Allen film which is in French.

If we were having that cup of tea, I would tell you how much I enjoy our visits, and ask with a laugh which way you pronounce scone, so I could be greedy and ask for another properly.

I say scone to rhyme with gone never, ever to rhyme with bone (hope that makes sense!)

This New Englander pronounces scone to rhyme with bone, but I noticed when I was in England, the natives pronounced it BOTH ways which made me even more confused! I guess we’ll have a laugh about this one, while you are pouring tea.

The scones and tea sound delicious and I’m sure hits the spot for you on a chilly day. Temps here have been a little cooler but still very hot. The French classes sound so interesting. We live so far away from a city where these classes would be possible. I wonder about doing them online. Have a wonderful week.

Thank you – yes the scones were just right for a winter afternoon. We are lucky living so close to the city centre so the face to face classes are possible and quite fun.

I completely agree with you about scone and tea. How wonderful that you are learning French. I am learning Japanese. This was such a lovely read, or should I say time spend together. Thank you for the lovely time.
