Words on Wednesday

We woke up this morning to see frost on the roof of the house next door, and an icy feel to the flowerpots. The first of the season, and I will have to think of some of my plants: our old house was pretty sheltered and I don’t remember seeing frost in the early mornings like this more than a couple of times each year. Anyway, the sun was out, and by lunch time I felt over dressed in my warm coat and scarf.

Wednesday, as many of you know, is my non-working day, which starts with laundry and Pilates: well one of those activities sparks joy! I have been doing Pilates for many years, and enjoy it more than any other exercise I have done – it just suits me and can be quite challenging at times.

I always like to treat myself to lunch after, and today headed over to one of my favourite cafes in Wellington, Squirrel, on Blair Street. I love this place: always busy, there is a real buzz to this little place next door to the fabulous interior shop, Small Acorns. There are always fresh flowers on the table, and it is the perfect place to enjoy a sandwich or one of their fabulous toasts. I had a chicken sandwich today, with a pot of tea.

I stopped off at Good Books, which is unfortunately closing on Friday, and picked up a couple of books in their closing sale. Then it was home to…well, unpack and set up my dolls’ house – something that I have never featured on the blog, and once I have mended a few things might well do a post about at some point.

In the evening we watched the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest…more of that later!

To be entered in Wednesday Words and Whimsy hosted by Min of Write of the Middle.

  1. It’s different seeing and feeling the seasonal change when we move house. This was us a year ago. We had lived in the relatively temperate zone by the coast forn 8 years and then we returned to an area of north western Sydney we knew well but had ‘forgotten’ the often extremes of summer heat and winter cold. Now we have been back over a year we are more used to it.

  2. Sounds like a wonderful day off. I have never done Pilates. There is nowhere close to me. I do have a program that I subscribe to and can do Pilates through that. I feel so stiff lately I really need to do something. I would love to hear about the doll houses.

  3. I liked the ambience of your cafe. I don’t like to hear talk of frost! We are hoping that we don’t get a destructive late frost as it is still not too late in the year to get one, although we are nearly safe now.

  4. Oh no, a frost in May……but at least you have a blue sky. We’ve had nothing but rain lately, and only a chicken sandwich like yours could pick me up!

  5. Oh that cafe where you went with the adjoining little shop looks gorgeous and somewhere I’d enjoy! Love that they have fresh flowers on the tables! I would love to see your doll’s house. I always loved them as a child and still have a fascination with them as an adult. Thanks again for linking up with #WWWhimsy – enjoy the upcoming weekend and hope to see you again next week! xo

  6. I love pilates too and can find it both relaxing and a challenge which shouldn’t work but does! I’m keen to know what you thought of Australia’s entry in Eurovision Barbara? I got up early and watched the first semifinals but haven’t seen any more. Who’s going to win in your opinion?

    1. Oh I agree – Pilates really focuses the mind and can be full of challenges.

Eurovision – actually watching heat number 2 just now. I have to say there are too many ‘novelty’ songs this year eg Finland, Ireland. My favourite is Italy, but like Luxembourg too and the French singer has a fantastic voice. There are some dark horses too like Armenia and Georgia. I wasn’t keen on the Australian entry to be honest – but it was 100 times better than Finland!
