If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would be sitting outside in the garden and marvelling at how warm it is. We would talk about how Easter is approaching, and how we will be entertaining in our new home on Easter Sunday.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…you would ask me about the move, as since we last met we are now in our new place. I say of course it was stressful, these things always are, but that we are enjoying the new space and once we have everything unpacked and in its right place it should be lovely. You say that is good news.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would say that I had been to the theatre twice this month (Belle – A Performance of Air and Black Grace) and also to Cuba Dupa street festival (photos here). I would say it has been wonderful to get out and experience something to make us forget the stress of the last few weeks and you say yes you can imagine.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about what we have been watching. I say we enjoyed the Australian detective drama True Colours and the final of the excellent UK drama The Walk-In about a journalist and a far right group. We also watched Apples Never Fall, based on the Lianne Moriarty novel and for some reason moved from Australia to Californa. We agree it was OK but not that brilliant.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea….you would ask about my word of the year, courage, and I say I have been so focussed on moving that I haven’t thought too much about it. You say you have had the courage to move again….and I say OK I’ll take that.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about food and I would say how surprised and delighted I was to see Boursin on sale, which I don’t think I have seen in over a year. You laugh and say have you told Ally of Nigella Eats Everything? And I say yes…it is something we have been talking about for months. You laugh – and say aren’t those tomatoes beautiful too? And I say yes.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would agree we can’t believe it is feijoa season already, but yes it is.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would naturally invite you to dinner. I say we are back to pasta again, but there are veggies to use up, so I make pasta with veggies, garlic, basil, parsley and lemon and open a bottle of wine and carry on our conversation into the evening.

  1. I have to imagine that all 3 of Moriarty’s books that were turned into shows were moved to take place in California because the writers/production companies were in California (perhaps?). I don’t think any of the moves made a huge difference in storyline though. I have yet to watch Apples Never Fall but I enjoyed Big Little Lies and 9 Perfect Strangers. Your dinner dish sounds delicious!

  2. HI, Barbara- I wholeheartedly agree that moving takes courage and that you have done this with grace and your very admirable positivity. And yes, I will gladly stay for pasta and veggies.. even if just virtually!

  4. I love Ally Mitchell’s substack – hers, Deborah Robertson’s and Emily Scotts’s are the only ones I subscribe to. Thanks for linking up, happy Easter & happy new home!

  5. It’s over a year now since we moved back to Sydney after 8 years away and I think I have taken that long to adjust and readjust because SO much has changed, including me!

    Enjoy your Easter Sunday entertaining.

We are hosting a Birthday/Easter Morning tea tomorrow for our kids and most of their kids. It will include a Easter Egg hunt!

    Take care,

    Denyse.

  7. Happy Easter, Barbara and enjoy entertaining in your new home. I really enjoyed our coffee/tea chat and thank you for sharing #WBOYC? for March. I read ‘Apples Never Fall’ but not seen the television series. I found that I didn’t really enjoy the previous Television series which were based Liane Moriarty books so haven’t bothered with this one. Enjoy the rest of your Easter weekend x

      1. Yes that does make sense. I sometimes catch up on series or movies on airplanes as there isn’t much else to fill the long flights to Europe is there? Both my husband and I have trouble sleeping so we get on the flight and plan what we are going to watch to take us through. x

  8. It is indeed good news that you are enjoying your new space. Congratulations on surviving the move. We just finished watching Apples Never Fall and had much the same reaction as yours. I will say we got more into it towards the end.
