If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would be enjoying some French Earl Grey tea from tLeafT and a raspberry friand from Arobake. I would say I think mine looks like a smiley face and you laugh.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about the good things of the month, from the Platinum Jubilee performance from the Royal New Zealand Ballet, to some glorious spring sunshine such as that on Labour Day this week, to finding time to sit and read.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…you would ask what have you been watching recently. I say we enjoyed the time travelling murder mystery Bodies and surprisingly the Beckham documentary on Netflix. I also say we re-watched Utopia and The Thick of It you laugh and say comedy about civil servants seems to appeal and I laugh too.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…you would ask what have you been cooking recently and I say I made the lamb bake with tahini sauce and tomatoes from Ottolenghi’s Simple. You say that sounds good and I say yes it was excellent, and lasted two days and a lunch. I also say it was the first time I had ever grated a tomato, and did think my photo made it look like something from the 1970s and does not reflect its wonderful flavours. You say you need to just practice with the light in the new place and maybe, just maybe, practice plating up better. I laugh.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would show you the first peonies I bought today and you say how gorgeous.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about blogging and our fellow bloggers and how we feel so many of these people are our friends, all the interesting things we have learned and see, and how it is a great community.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would say I am sorry I can’t invite you for dinner tonight as we are off to a concert. You say that is fine, let’s have dinner next month and I say yes.

  2. It’s possible to grate a tomato? I don’t even want to think about how big a mess I’d make trying to do that (I’m possibly the messiest cook in the Northern Hemisphere).

  3. Grating a tomato sounds foreign to me too, but then I never skin them either. That friand looks delicious and I always enjoy Earl Grey tea 🙂

  6. Yes I saw the smiley face in the friand immediately! I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the Beckham doco, I might watch it at some stage. I always enjoy an Earl Grey cuppa 🙂 Lovely post for #WWWhimsy

  8. Utopia is my favourite tv show – the only thing I actually look forward to watching. Episodes never get stale even after watching them several times of iview (catch up).
    And before commenting I had to go and ask Mr G about grating tomatoes. There was I with visions of holding the Tom with a rounded side to the grater when all you had to do was cut in half and grate the flat surface 😊

  16. We’re also watching Bodies; stretching it out by only watching one a night. At this point, I’m really hoping it has a worthy ending. I’m also enjoying Beckham but only on my own as this is a Liverpool FC home and the other homesteaders feel his allegiance to Man U is too much to bear 😁

  17. The lamb looks fabulous. Just how hard is it to style and photograph brown food though? I think that might just be my new years resolution – to learn how to do it.

  18. Hello, friend. It’s nice having a cup of tea with you again (and yes, the raspberry friand is indeed smiling at us!). Concerts, ballets, trying new recipes, rewatching shows (mine was “Crash Landing on You”) — I look forward once again to nurturing myself with our conversations.
