This week’s small pleasures #352

Phew! We are here, we are settling in and enjoyingthings like the size of the pantry (huge) and the clothes line that gets the sun making drying sheets a joy. I have unpacked most of the cook books because I know where they are going to go, but I really do need to cull some more books as we unpack. Anyway, to this week’s small pleasures.

Eating

I enjoyed lunch on Wednesday at Neo Cafe, having their excellent eggs Benedict with mushrooms and spinach. It is a lovely and always busy spot, well worth visiting if you are ever in the city. In the shopping basket this week were potatoes, parsnips, yams (oca), baby carrots, purple sprouting broccoli and cauli stems. I love cauliflower and my dear husband does not, so will try this out for Monday’s dinner in a cheesy sauce as he heads off on his travels.

Saturday morning

My new walk to town takes me past Wellington Cathedral of St Paul, a pink, concrete building which was dedicated in 1964. It is quite an imposing building and can’t be missed as you walk by. If you are wondering why there is a truck visible, well every Saturday morning there is a small farmers’ market held in the car park.

Naturally, I had to go and have a look, and picked up a large bunch of rainbow chard (which will get eaten somehow!) and the yams (oca) pictured above. I can see this becoming a new regular part of my Saturday morning.

It is much quicker to walk to town now, and it was a gloriously sunny morning too, so I had a little stroll before Pilates. Here is the Old Bank Arcade building which I am sure I have featured before in some way or form!

Simple things

  • Making friends with a new cat who seems to pop around each afternoon.
  • Having wonderful friends who helped us move some things and clear the rubbish from the old place.
  • Discovering sunny places at our new home.
  • Enjoying some fabulous weather at the start of spring.
  • Knowing it will all work out in the end.
  • Finding the kitchen utensils after several days without.

  1. Visiting your blogspace is a highlight for me each week – you make/eat such delicious things that I always feel delighted after the visit.

Eggs Ben with spinach & mushroom is one of my all time favourite foods! And your capture has me drooling (I’ve already had lunch). And you know I love peeking into your produce tray: that purple broccoli is very pretty! and how is your cauliflower so enticing? I love cauli too, so I look forward to what you are cooking with yours! My new favourite way to cauli is chargrilled with a drizzle of miso caramel dressing.
