I started the post on Sunday evening after we realised we didn’t have enough boxes to pack up everything in the kitchen, including far too many cook books. What does one do in those circumstances? Well, we ordered pizza and opened a bottle of wine. I was going to try and publish my post as usual on Monday, but what with it taking nearly a whole day to move, not finding our toothbrushes and having to make an emergency dash to the supermarket, as well as being generally exhausted I am posting today, Tuesday, instead. Anyway, to this week’s small pleasures.
Another burger
On Thursday evening, we went for out last burger as part of the Burger Wellington to Bellamy’s by Logan Brown which is housed inside the Beehive, the New Zealand Parliament building. It is fun going to eat there as you have to check in, go through a metal detector and get given a visitor’s pass for the lift, not your normal restaurant visit! The burger was called The Beefy Backbencher described as a cheesy pepper beef patty, with mustard, pickles, lettuce, béarnaise and bacon aioli, in a Brezelmania garlic butter brioche bun served with beef fat fries and very good it was too.

Food shopping
The shopping basket was pretty minimal this week due to the move, but with this being citrus season still, I picked up a grapefruit, oranges and a couple of lemonade fruit (a hybrid between a mandarin and lemon). There was also a mini bunch of purple sprouting brocolli.

I think that is it really as our weekend was spent packing and organising and stressing. Still, even though is is only the first full day, I still can’t find out dinner plates and a single bed is our temporary sofa, the house feels quite comfortable. The picture on the right was about half way through the move in. You should see it now…..!
Simple things
- Realising that we are swapping once nice view for another
- Finding relief, mentally and physically, at Pilates
- Enjoying the first signs of spring
- Getting distracted by interesting documents instead of packing
- Enjoying a large plate of fish and chips at a local pub at the end of Monday’s move
- Saying a BIG thank you to all my wonderful blogging friends for your words of encouragement and support during our move

What were your small pleasures this week? Sorry for not posting links this week, but normal service will be resumed next Monday.

The burger place looks like a fun and interesting place to eat! The round sofa by the elevators looks like a burger patty.
Wishing you the best in your move! Stay well and safe.

It’s amazing that you found any energy to blog. It’s great that you still had to recognize the small pleasures. Sometimes when we get busy we forget to pay attention.

I bought a bunch of tulips today That was my small pleasure today and I found a box of vases too. Sometimes you just need little things to brighten your day.

Hi, Barbara – The next time that I need to move I’m calling on you. You have been incredibly organized, prompt in your decision making and have still found time for blogging (and simple pleasures)! Well done!

Oh I don’t know about that! There have been some tears and tantrums but we will get there even though I can’t find lots of things.

I certainly don’t feel organized!

I’m sorry about the tears and tantrums. Moving does that to us all. It only proves that you are human. 😀

I am so impressed by how you are handling the move. Your are a PRO! Truly a perfect choice to order pizza and open a bottle of wine when you didn’t have enough boxes for the things in the kitchen 🙂
There are so many “Small pleasures” in our ordinary life. One of my small pleasures this school year is that I’ve change my schedule so that I can take the same bus as my daughter takes in the morning, having that extra time together in the morning makes the whole day better. I also treasure working with a very wise lady from Iran, her wisdom is inspiring to be around.
Best of luck with the rest of the move! Very soon you’ll start the fun part of unpacking and making the new home yours. I can’t wait to see your new beautiful views.

Oh well….there is a lot still to do and tomorrow I need to try and clean the old place. Your small pleasure sounds lovely. We are now in the new place surrounded by cardboard boxes.

I wish you well in the process of turning your new abode into a home you both feel comfortable in. It might be a slow process, yet it is a wonderful feeling once your precious (and practical) things have been homed and there is a feeling of comfort and peace.

Thank you! It will take a while I think…..priority is finding the box marked ‘kitchen important’ which is nowhere in view….

Such a disruption, but it takes remarkably little time to feel like you are home.

First of all that burger looks amazing. Moving is so very hard but it looks like you are taking it step by step which is just how it has to be. I think it is a work in progress for a little while. It sounds like you are settling in nicely and feeling at home.

The burger was good! The house is in a great location and we have a great view…and one of the neighbours has a large, floofy cat!

I am staggered that you had the time and energy to post at all. I hope that the dinner plates will appear in due course.

I think moving out and starting out again is very stressful, you have done so well, even managing to do a post!
I also agree about how distracted you can get when you are packing/de-cluttering. I’m always finding interesting photos or articles I’ve collected, just at the time when we are trying to de-clutter.
Anyway, good luck with the unpacking and soon you will be settling in..
