Thistles and Kiwis

This time next week we will hopefully be mostly packed up and ready to move. There still seems to be so much to do though – all those books, all those old magazines and as for the stash of plant pots…. Anyway, thanks to Jim at Garden Ruminations, for hosting Six on Saturday, whose knowledge of all things plants and gardening makes him an ideal host and move on to what can be see at the moment outside.

First up, these interesting specemins – they may be “quisquilia croceus” – whatever they are, they are multiplying fast outside the house.

Much nicer to look at are the violas which are spreading and looking good. They are so pretty but I will have to leave these behind. I can always get some more…..

Also nice to look at are the camellias, still blooming and still looking good. The tuis like them too.

I tried to capture the flowers on the rosemary but not sure if I did that great a job. This is one plant I do want to take with me, if I can.

Spring is definitely just around the corner if we have spotted two more crocus. I managed to capture this one, looking very pretty.

And finally….lots of miniature daffodils are popping up all over. What a joy!

As usual, I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s beautiful gardens in other parts of the world. Hope you are all well and enjoying your gardens in whatever the season is with you.

  5. It’s still summer here, or at least in my mind, but seeing the first crocuses and dwarf daffodils blooming in the southern hemisphere really makes me think that our autumn is just around the corner…

  6. You are doing so well with all your packing and the move is must speedier than it ever would be here in the UK, we get tied down by so much ‘useless’ paperwork. Lovely to see the signs of Spring in your patch.

      1. The English system always seemed so complicated to me. I bought and sold in Scotland and it is much easier, certainly my experience of selling my aunt’s house in England was a much bigger pain (and I was just selling, not buying as well).

        1. The trouble with the English system is that sellers (and buyers) can pull out before contracts are exchanged. Happened to us twice. First time the seller decided on the date we paid our solicitor that she wasn’t moving out after all until she had bought somewhere. Second time after we’d paid for surveys etc. and only days before exchange the sellers decided to accept a higher offer. The estate agent was extremely embarrassed. We were totally gutted.

  7. Take as many pots as you can with you. You’ll be surprised how much you can fit in a relatively small space. And if you use larger pots you can cram lots of the smaller bulbs in. I usually have 25 in a shallow bowl.
