Thistles and Kiwis

It has been pouring with rain all day. Grey skies and the sound of rain drops on the decking kept me indoors, baking scones and drinking tea. So, there has been another day of lack of any outdoor activity. Anyway, thanks to Jim at Garden Ruminations, for hosting Six on Saturday, whose knowledge of all things plants and gardening makes him an ideal host and move on to what can be see at the moment outside.

Luckily, I had been taking a few pictures during the week, so there aren’t too many grey, gloomy and damp pictures at least. The first one though is not from our garden, but in the Botanic Gardens. Yes – that is a miniature daffodil – in autumn, Ah well…..

So to number two, and the camellias I featured last week as well that border our steps and we share with our neighbours. This year there seems to be an even better display than the last two years – or so it seems to me at least.

I came home on Wednesday afternoon and could see a pop of bright orange, and spotted this nasturtium. Lovely to see of course (and please ignore the weeds – I though this was an empty pot).

Another thing I spotted on Wednesday was this white camellia flower that had fallen onto one of the logs leftover from the silver birch that was chopped down a couple of months ago, If you look carefully, the centre looks blue, a reflection of the sky (it was sunny that day – see the featured image at the top of the post) in the little puddle of water in the centre of the flower. No editing other than trimming the photo.

I also manage to actually get semi-decent pictures of the borage for a change. I love these flowers, both the colour and shape, and am pleased to see them around again.

Finally, more camellia buds, some in the rain this afternoon. It really was not a day to be outside!

Anyway, as usual, I am looking forward to seeing everyone’s beautiful gardens in other parts of the world. Hope you are all well and enjoying your gardens in whatever the season is with you.

  3. Wow you still have a lot of beautiful color still going on even into your autumn months. The miniature daffodil is just adorable. I had so much planned today outside. It is my day off and now a 90% chance of rain. Maybe it won’t be a total washout.

  5. There’s still a lot going on where you live! My favorite is the white blossom on the log. I really like the contrast, and I looked at the photo for quite a while. Thanks for pointing out the blue dot in the center. I don’t think I would have noticed that.

  9. Lovely camellia ❤ I love the pretty deep blue borage blooms, I think they smell of borage too don't they?
