If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would be looking out at the rainy weather and agree it is good to be indoors, drinking tea and keeping cosy.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about the signs of spring, the bulbs popping up, the buds on the magnolia, even though it is still winter. We smile at the thought of longer and warmer days ahead.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would tell you about my shopping today: a cookbook from Arty Bees, some herbal tea to help in Covid recovery, a beeswax candle and these intriguing sounding rose, raspberry and pomegranate truffles from local producer Baron Hasselhoff’s. You say that all looks good. I say yes though the tea tastes like a herbal remedy and you laugh.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would tell you I managed to get hold of some more Jerusalem artichokes and have made a big pot of soup, so would you like to stay for dinner? There is some fresh bread too and we could try the new truffles for dessert. You say oh yes that sounds really good! So we sit down and enjoy dinner and more conversation.

  1. I would tell you what bliss it was to wake up to the sound of light rain falling … 4mm is better than nothing and will be good for the seeds I planted earlier this week. I would admit that at half past nine in the morning I am still waiting for water to flow through our pipes so that I can wash up after having baked a batch of ginger biscuits. Meanwhile, I would enjoy a nibble of those truffles!

  2. We could match you with dreary weather, and forecast of rain. We have been drinking more herbal teas lately as we both have colds, and it is a ‘mixed bag”!

  3. As the sun disappears earlier each evening here in the U.S., your talk of tea, coffee, and soup is a reminder that we’ll soon be on the other end as you welcome spring and summer. Nothing like more sunshine than gloom. This reader appreciates your invite. May you feel better soon.

  6. I didn’t know you could make soup from Jerusalem artichokes!

We finally had some rain here… for about 5 minutes. We’re supposed to get more over the next week. Fingers crossed! I love the sun, but there’s magic in a rainy day.

  7. Hi Barbra, since you’re now putting your name to your blog posts, I guess I need to give up addressing you as T&K. But I’ve been doing that for long enough that it feels weird to not use it. Anyway, fun stuff again and it’s always entertaining that our seasons are a full 180 degrees out of sync with each other. We are getting slow-cooked with summer, but (after reading about Janet’s 102 in Tucson – I’m not going to complain in the least. My wife loves the mid 80s F even if I think it’s too hot but 102.! ! ! ? That would melt me.
I picked up a local Jerusalem artichoke and now just need to recall to do something fun with it.
    Thanks for the visit.

    1. Hi – you can continue to call me T&K! I realised that for some reason my ‘about’ page is not showing (something to investigate one of these days) so thought I better say who I was! We are experiencing a wetter than normal winter thanks to in part to La Niña,

Jerusalem artichokes are a winter vegetable – but then maybe you can get them all year round where you are!
