If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea… we would talk about how one of life’s pleasures is to sit in a cafe, with a good cup of coffee and perhaps a little treat. I tell you that on Tuesday I did just that, enjoying a Melting Moment biscuit with a coffee at my favourite, Squirrel.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would agree it was good that the whole of New Zealand was now at Covid alert Level 1. We would talk about the second anniversary of the shooting at the mosque in Christchurch, and that it is getting close to the anniversary of the first big lockdown here in New Zealand. I would show you the interesting timeline post from Natalie the Explorer in Toronto, showing the similarities and differences in the lockdowns a year apart.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would tell you that I went back to work on Thursday after two weeks away, and am happy it is only two weeks until my holiday. You ask what I did on my last day of ‘freedom’, and I say…went to Goods cafe in Thorndon…yes, with my book. You smile.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would wonder when we will get the Covid vaccine here. It looks like being the second half of the year, and we also ponder if there will be a vaccine passport. I say I am not going anywhere outside New Zealand until I have had the vaccine, and you agree.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would make a pot of French Earl Grey Tea from tLeafT. You say it is a beautiful tea to look at, and I say it has orange peel, cornflower petals, and jasmine and rose petals.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea, I would serve you a little rhubarb and custard tart from Arobake. You say – how lovely – and I say, yes we all need treats from time to time.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would, as usual, suddenly realise how much time has past…so of course you stay for dinner, and we open a bottle of wine.

That cafe in Thorndon looks the goods. I can’t wait to be able to visit Wellington again and sit down and have a vino with my bestie but, as you say, I’m not going anywhere without that jab. Have a fabulous week.

Thank you for the virtual experience of tea. Here in New York City, we await our turn for vaccines, and stay inside. We drink P.G. Tips, because we can get it delivered from Wegman’s, a supermarket that delivers. I bought Irish Soda bread and Jalapeno Cheese bread, from their bakery, because it was shockingly available (not everything is). It is OK, but not like homemade and not like a favorite coffee shop. But, this is a good time to create, to write, to plan, to learn new skills and practice rusty ones (digital marketing). A good time to explore You Tube (I have walked around Madrid so many times on You Tube, I could find my way around blindfolded). NZ isn’t in the plans, yet. But, perhaps it will be later. In the meantime, I will sip my Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice, and think of you, having a nice sweet biscuit with your Earl Grey.

Rhubarb and custard; a lovely combo but one that has the odd association for me of my brother’s childhood guinea pigs, named … yep! What was he thinking?

I love the look of the little rhubarb and custard tart…. such good food in Wellington! When we visited Wellington there was a cyclone threatening,…. so we didn’t go too far from the hotel the first night, but we had really good food almost everywhere in New Zealand.

Oh yum, that’s jogged a memory! My grandmother used to make melting moments – they were always so lovely to eat, and she shared her recipe with me as I grew up and started baking myself. Sadly all these years on I have no idea where that recipe went! Might have to go online to search for a new one to try… 🙂

That tart and that biscuit look amazing. My daughter visited NZ in 2019 and loved it. I love to go sit in coffee shops too.
