If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would, naturally, talk about the weather, about the cold, crisp mornings and sunny days.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup tea…we would talk about lockdown level 2 this time around, how more people are wearing masks, about checking in to every shop or cafe with a QR code, about the increase in cases in Auckland. We would talk about how the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s season is delayed again, and that the World of Wearable Art exhibition has also been postponed. I read you a quote from my friend Tina in the UK which I think sums up the situation well:
I roll between questioning lots of things and just not questioning anything and staying back in the bubble again.
And also realise how lucky were are in Wellington at the moment as she says:
I am still in the Peak District where lockdown just got extended after two weeks for a further two weeks. No to even garden visits right now.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would also talk about the good things of life, like cups of tea, rhubarb tarts and friendship. We would talk about This week’s small pleasures, and things to look forward to such as further signs of spring.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…you would ask me what I have done so far on my week free from work. I say not a lot…some tidying up, some reading, two forays into town, some shopping. I show you a dress I bought in Kow Tow, after saying I needed no more clothes. You laugh and say that is always the way, and it was in the sale anyway.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would tell you how lazy I am feeling and you say why not? You are on holiday. I tell you about all the podcasts I have been listening to and recommend Made to be Broken from This American Life.

If we were having a coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would say join us for dinner. There is plenty of food, a bottle (or two) or wine and we should make the most of the evening. You say yes, and we enjoy that old favourite, Julia Turshen’s turkey and ricotta meatballs.

You can find Thistles and Kiwis on Facebook, and also on Instagram@thistleandkiwis. As for Twitter….am totally inactive these days. If you want to get in touch, email me on thistlesandkiwis@gmail.com
