If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea on this Friday we would decide to avoid all mention of politics or the world situation. We haven’t buried our heads in the sand, just that we want to focus on the positive today.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea we would talk about spring, about the wonderful displays of flowers everywhere, about how we have summer to look forward to, and holiday plans.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea we would talk about our weekend plans. I say it will be a pretty quiet and normal weekend for us, though we are going to see the comedian Dylan Moran on Saturday. You say you are planning on starting a big spring clean. I say that sounds like something I should do as well, but not this weekend!

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea we would talk about food, in particular this season’s asparagus. Avocados are plentiful, the first strawberries have appeared and broccoli is looking good.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea we would talk about the winner of the Nobel Prize for literature this year, the Polish author, Olga Tokarczuk. I said I had read Flights and had another book of hers in my large ‘to read’ pile. I say I loved Flights and recommend it to you. You agree you really should read her books.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…wait a minute….the sun is over the yard arm. Let’s have a glass of wine and cook dinner and continue the conversation. You agree.

  1. Yes, yes, yes! All sounds grand. Although you might have to stuff a sock in my mouth to prevent me from talking about politics. 😉 On the other hand, if I were having tea with you, maybe I would take a break and just enjoy beautiful spring.
