This week’s small pleasures #139

It’s that time again for a round up of a few small pleasures from the week. Coming to you a day early again as I am off up to Rotorua on another work trip – I know! Anyway, the first small pleasure this week is of this stunning view of Mount Ruapehu and the surrounding region, taken flying back from Napier on Tuesday.

Volcanoes in the distance

Regular readers may have noticed toast featuring the past few weeks, and yes there is more toast this week. My new Saturday morning haunt, Squirrel, has added a fourth toast to its list. The new topping is ricotta, radishes and some crunchy micro greens, with a little olive oil drizzled on the top. Really lovely, and a nice mix of the creamy and crunchy.

On Saturday afternoon, we went to The Food Show, where we tasted all sorts of things from cheese to wine to sausages, and picked up a few things including these sprats (not actually sardines). There is one with thyme and lemon, one with mustard seed and one classic. I tasted all of them, and have to say they were very good. Might use them at Christmas.

Sprats from Latvia

Another pleasure this weekend was going to see this year’s New Zealand School of Dance Choreographic Season, Orbiculus. There were some lovely lyrical pieces this year, and some really good dancing as well. The pieces all merged into each other seamlessly into a complete evening of dance. What a joy it is to see new, young talent.

And finally the small pleasure that is Sunday breakfast, with some sour dough bread from The Crafted And Co, still slightly warm from the oven, topped with goat’s cheese and tomato, all washed down lashings of tea.

And that’s it for this week. What were your small pleasures of the past week?

Thanks to Mani over at A New Life Wandering for the original idea.
