If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea we would agree it has been ages since we sat down and had a good chat. We would also agree that it is hard to believe it is the end of April and autumn. We would, of course, talk about the weather, and some of the fabulous sunny days we have had, and how nice it was to have two long weekends in a row (since I took today off work as well).
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea I would offer you an Anzac biscuit*, made yesterday. I say I should make them more often as they are so good, and you agree.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea you would say you got up and went to the dawn service on Anzac Day**, and I would say one year I must.

If we were having a coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about making plans. Plans for holidays, plans for things to do, plans for places to go, and plans already made.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would realise that the evening was here, and it was time for a gin and tonic. Naturally, as usual, I asked if you wanted to stay for dinner, and naturally you said yes.

*Anzac biscuits – the story goes that these biscuits (cookies as some of you might call them) were made to send to the New Zealand and Australian troops during World War 1. This is the recipe I use.
**Anzac Day – is the national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand observed on 25 April.

I will look up these measurements – have printed out the recipe.

I first made ANZAC biscuits when I was 8 at school in England. We had an Australian teacher for the year who was most insistent on teaching us the Ozzie way including pinning up a map of the world Upsidedown! Little did I know that I’d be living in New Zealand with my kiwi husband lots and lots of years later and baking ANZAC biccies for my children. Great post!
