This week’s small pleasures #115

Here we are again with my weekly roundup of small pleasures.  There is quite a variety this week, so let’s begin with last Monday, when I flew up to Hawke’s Bay. It was a glorious, sunny day in Wellington and I managed to snap the picture below from my seat window.  You can see just how clear the skies were and get a fabulous view of the city.

Walking to and from work

Whether it was stopping off to see the roses at the Lady Norwood Rose Garden (hopefully next post) or just saying hello to the ducks, my walk to (and sometimes from ) work is always a small pleasure.  There is always something new to see in the Botanic Gardens.

Dinner at Field and Green

On Friday, we had dinner at one of our favourite places, Field and Green.  I had the most delicious blue swimmer crab cakes with mixed leaves and a tarragon mayonnaise, that was one of the most wonderful dishes I have eaten in ages, with a perfect balance of flavours.  For my main dish I had the goat’s cheese soufflé , which was also excellent.  Karl had venison carpaccio to start and a steak served with a blue cheese sauce that also got rave reviews.  

Picking up Swedish food

It was great to pick up a selection of herring, the special ansjovis for Janssons Frestelse, and some other goodies in preparation for our Christmas Eve feast.  We also got some more crispbread, a large tube of my favourite Kalles and a tube of cheese spread – just so Scandinavian (especially as this one has lobster and crab).

And that is it for this week!  Oh and a shout out for The Propagator and their Six on Saturday blog meme which is a new weekend pleasure.  So nice to see what people are doing in their gardens,.
