When I was a child, my mother always made us soft boiled eggs with soldiers (if you don’t know what that is, it is sticks of toast to dip in the egg) on Christmas morning. It was a ritual, and one that I try to stick to if possible still. And why not, when eggs for breakfast are a favourite.
My Saturday routine always involves eggs in some form or other for breakfast, boiled ones today and, to add to the perfection of such a breakfast Kalles Kaviar with dill! Brought back lovingly by my dear husband from Auckland, it really made my breakfast a five star one. Now any Swedes reading this will laugh, but honestly, it is something hard to find here (the original one can be bought from our local Swedish shop). If you don’t know what it is, it is creamed cod roe in a tube and is absolutely delicious. Check out three ways to eat it here.
Other things on toast this week to start the day have been goat’s cheese and tomato, and the reissue of Fix and Fogg’s Fruit Toast peanut butter for the festive season. This is peanut butter with added organic raisins and sultanas, freeze dried apple pieces and cinnamon. It sounds as good as it tastes.
