The sun just touched the morning…

What happened on our last day in Vancouver?  The sun came out!  Yes, finally, the skies turned blue and the golden orb shone in the sky.  We headed over to Gastown, the oldest part of the city, named after “Gassy” Jack Deighton, a Yorkshire seaman, steamboat captain who arrived in 1867 to open the area’s first saloon. Quite a person to call a district after!  We had already visited the area earlier in the week, when we took part in an evening walk, Lost Souls of Vancouver, (one of the walks offered by Forbidden Vancouver) during which we learned about the history of the area through an imaginary character telling stories, so it was good to see it in daylight and the sun!

We strolled about and popped in and out of shops.  I fell in love with a dress in Kit and Ace which was not on my list, but screamed ‘buy me’.  As Marie Kondo would say, if it gives you pleasure, then it is fine to buy (or something like that!).  I didn’t buy any shoes from Fluevog, though did have a good look around.

It was then time for lunch, which we had at Peckinpah.  I had the fried chicken sandwich with apple cider mayo, sweet potato chips, tomato and coriander, and Karl had the ‘all bacon’ sandwich, both of which were excellent and just the thing.

We were also able to take a final walk by the water, saying goodbye to Vancouver in the sun, before visiting the nesting blue heron, a sure sign that spring had arrived.
