This Week’s Small Pleasures: episode 7

Today in New Zealand and Australia it is Anzac Day, the day on which these two nations remember all those who killed in war and also honours returned servicemen and women.  The date itself (25th April) marks the anniversary of the landing of the Anzacs, New Zealand and Australian soldiers, on the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915.  We didn’t get up for the dawn service, but we have been enjoying a gorgeous sunny autumn day.

And so to this week’s small pleasures, thanks to A New Life Wandering for the idea.

One of this week’s small pleasures has been this new tea: Singapore Breakfast Tea, a blend of green and black teas with spices and vanilla overtones.  It has a gorgeous smell and could easily become a new favourite.

I made a small pleasure to have with morning tea today, namely Anzac biscuits, a chewy mix of coconut and oats, there are arguments as to whether they are an Australian or New Zealand invention.  Regardless, they are a classic antipodean biscuit (recipe in this old blog post).  While I was making them, I watched several silver eyes (a native bird) playing about in the trees outside – a really lovely small pleasure.

There were several small pleasures to be seen on our walk through the Botanic Gardens today.  We even saw some cute wee ducklings, which seemed odd for this time of year, but there they were, swimming about and running after mother duck.

I’m not sure if this is a small pleasure, but have finally got around to buying a domain name and setting up the fledgling stages of my new blog site.  More news in posts to come.
