Cats, turnips and days off

Having a few days off has meant being at home quite a bit more, and so we were there to witness a cat standoff.  As predicted, Misse Moj met Bodie, our new ginger neighbour with extremely noisy results.  Bodie is about twice the size of Misse Moj, but looked almost confused and certainly bemused by Misse Moj’s behaviour and extremely loud caterwauling.  Actually, poor Misse Moj got really quite agitated and we tried to bring him indoors, but as you can see, Bodie just peered through the glass and it all started up again.  Anyway, Bodie’s owner came looking for him, and calm was restored.

It has been a funny sort of week, with only two working days.  Nice of course, but a proper week off would have been so much nicer of course!  I’ve also been into Moore Wilson’s twice as it is so close to where I am taking exercise classes, and was tempted by these mini turnips.

Little turnips

As I was just cooking for myself tonight, I decided to go with roasted turnips and mushrooms for a light meal, since I have been stuffing my face for what feels like days.  Preheat the oven to 220C.  Top and tail the turnips, mix in mushrooms (I had brown ones at hand), drizzle with olive oil, seasoning and rosemary.  Roast for about 30 minutes depending on your oven.  Quantities are variable according to taste.

To go with it, I did a variation of braised peas with lettuce, but with half a red onion and some cos lettuce that needed to be used up in the fridge.  Spring onions are definitely better, but it was still good.  Jamie Oliver’s recipe is one that works quite well.

I’m now sitting here with some peppermint tea and a sleepy cat – two content creatures.
