If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would be sitting sipping some green tea in the glorious afternoon sunshine. You say the forecast was wrong again and I say yes. I say can you believe it is almost winter? And you say not really…and I say but winters here are not like winters where I grew up or lived before moving here and you laugh.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would also offer you a slice of parsnip, lemon and poppy seed loaf from Steffi Knowles-Dellner’s Lagom. You say that sounds good and I day it is a good way to use up all the parsnips from the Wonky Box.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…you would ask me how I was feeling and I say still not 100%. Whatever this bug has been has really laid me low. You say at least it is the King’s Birthday holiday coming up, and I say yes and I have to be fit for June as the diary is really filling up. However, I was at the physio this morning about my foot and she thinks I might only need two more visits. You say oh that is good news! I say…fingers crossed!
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would tell you about some good food we have had this month with dinner at Vietnamese-French restaurant Apaché and the fantastic feast what was Peter Gordon’s wonderful menu at Floriditas. You say that does sound fabulous.

If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about things seen and things done. I say I saw the Royal New Zealand Ballet at the start of the month, and the choreographic season at the New Zealand School of Dance. Of course there was Eurovision as well…but we have already discussed that!
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would talk about what we have been cooking, what we have been watching (Secrets We Keep, Australian Masterchef and Code of Silence) and what we have been reading.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…we would discuss future plans. I say there are films to see, books to read, an event at our local library next week and of course good food to eat and enjoy. You smile and say that all sounds good.
If we were having coffee…or even a cup of tea…I would ask you if you would like to stay for dinner? There is a nice beef stew with some polenta and a side of broccoli. You say, that sounds good, so we settle down to an evening of good food and wine.

Lovely to see what you have been up to and the food pics…as always make me hungry.
I am still getting used to the name King’s Birthday Holiday weekend here in Australia. Ours in Mon 9 June.
Take care,

I really do need to make that parsnip loaf cake – although I think I say it every time you post it. I have to admit to being a wee bit jelly about your dinner with Peter Gordon. I really must make it to Floraditas next time I’m in town. Thanks for linking up with us.

It is very good and a good way to use up parsnips. The Peter Gordon event was very good – there are two more ‘special’ events coming up https://floriditas.co.nz/events/ but Floriditas is always good.

It does annoy me that you and the Aussies have the King’s Birthday as a holiday and we Brits don’t. How fair is that?

We used to have ‘Victoria Day’ in Scotland (maybe only Edinburgh?) but it seems just Commonwealth countries that have a King’s birthday holiday.

Hi Barbara, I always enjoy having coffee with you. The Parsnip, Lemon and Poppy Seed loaf looks delicious and I would never have thought of using parsnip. I’ve not been to the Ballet in years and must make the effort. I’m pleased you are feeling better and hope that you have a wonderful June. Thanks for joining us for #WBOYC? Sue L xx

Hi, Barbara – That is great news that you should only need two more visits for your foot. Wishing you a speedy recovery from the bug you have (similar bugs have been going around here too). Wishing you a lovely winter ahead. And, yes of course, I gladly accept your kind dinner invite! ❤

The foot news has cheered me up. I really have been struck low by this annoying bug – been one thing after another this year – but a new month is just around the corner!

yes it is a bit odd saying King’s birthday now. Our Public Hol. in Qld is in october so even odder! Your stew looks good.

Isn’t the holiday something to do with official birthdays? I am not sure…..

Gardening and more gardening has been on my May calendar. But I am coming down the homestretch and will soon be back to blogging on a regular basis. That seed loaf sounds pretty darned good.
