Thistles and Kiwis

So….in Monday’s post I mentioned that the lease on the place we are living in just now will end at the end of August as the owner is selling the house. While we have a few months to look for somewhere new, we decided to start looking immediately, and it looks like we have found somewhere already. This of course was not expected, but life never runs quite the way we plan. Anyway, this will be my last post for a while as my focus will be on other things. Thanks to Jim at Garden Ruminations, for hosting Six on Saturday, whose knowledge of all things plants and gardening makes him an ideal host and move on to what can be see at the moment outside.

Everything is very neglected, everything is dry though at least I won’t have too much to move. I’m not planning to buy any bulbs this year until I know what is going on. At least the rue is still looking lively.

The rosemary plants are doing reasonably, though like everything right now, covered with spider’s webs.

The toothed lancewood also has visitors….

At least I still have a lot of tarragon, some of which has been made into tarragon vinegar. However, the Texas tarragon withered to nothing in the summer sunshine, which I found surprising.

The biggest success has been the wee indoor basil plant, just bought in the supermarket. I am still picking and using the leaves, one of the best things I have bought in ages.

The hydrangeas are of course at an end, somehow signalling to us it is time to move. I’m not sure when – or even if – I will join in Six on Saturday again, but I can of course enjoy all your gardens each week.

  1. I am so pleased you have found a new abode relatively quickly and hope that it will have even a small place for your plants. The spider webs signal the forthcoming dormancy – and the plants have given a nod to your move. Your time in that garden is over – a new start is in the offing.

  4. That’s a shame about the house but good that you’ve hopefully already found somewhere else (fingers are crossed for you). I hope we do see you again on Six on Saturday – I always look forward to seeing your selection of bulbs and herbs. I’ll miss the Hydrangea.

  9. Good luck on the move! After my last move, I hope I will never move again! It is exhausting! I used to move about every two years as rents would move out of reach. That is truly wat brought me to Wisconsin – I was able to buy my own place and get off the rental merry go round which, at least in the US, is not designed for people of moderate means.

      1. I got lucky – moved to Wisconsin planning to buy. Took a year to decide where, and just got lucky to find a modest home that fit my budget. I could not buy this house today. House seems solid and I can’t complain of the backyard, especially with Spring’s promise just around the corner!

  13. Good luck with the move, maybe you will have a small garden this time? Renting over here is a nightmare. Especially in a county where holiday lets are preferred rather than long lets. We’re lucky to own our home though I think we will have to make one more move to get closer to amenities. Always such a stress moving! But at least this time you won’t have to go through all the decluttering.

    1. Thanks! There is a small space where I will at least be able to put my herb pots, and a place to sit and a patch of grass. We were very lucky I think – it is a new build and the owner is downsizing to one of the 6 new houses. We will be very close to the local shops, library, pubs and swimming pool (not that I swim, but my husband does). There will be far less decluttering this time at least, though I am determined to get rid of more ‘stuff’.
