What a glorious sunny start there has been to 2018! Not sure quite how hot it has been (the met office site doesn’t really help…), but today and yesterday our little terrace was too hot to sit on in the afternoon.
After waving goodbye to Anton, who left for Copenhagen on Tuesday morning, New Zealand time, we headed out in the afternoon in the direction of Pencarrow, site of New Zealand’s first permanent lighthouse (and also home to the first female lighthouse keeper in the country). We didn’t in fact walk up to it, staying on the beach and taking a stroll along the sand.

We drove back via Eastbourne, returning to a hot house and much in need of a nice, cold beer! There is going to be a little break in blogging as this is our summer holiday period, but you can follow what Thistles and Kiwis is up to over on Instagram in the meantime.

Footnote: The second of January is a holiday in New Zealand, just like in Scotland. This is so civilised, and I feel sorry for those in Denmark and England and anywhere else that doesn’t insist on this being an extra day off.
You can find Thistles and Kiwis on Facebook, and also on Instagram @thistleandkiwis. As for Twitter….am totally inactive these days. If you want to get in touch, email me on thistlesandkiwis@gmail.com
