We are now into our third week and slowly setting in to our new life here. Practical things are getting done such as getting registered with a dentist and applying for a Moore Wilson’s card http://www.moorewilson.co.nz/ so I can spend hours shopping for food, and organising internet for our new home.
One slightly exciting thing happened on Tuesday! I have been offered a job for 1 trimester teaching ecommerce in the School of Information Management. It will be a two day a week job more or less, but is a toe in the door, and I am looking forward to starting.
Otherwise, we went to the cinema here for the first time. We went to the Paramount, a building dating from 1917. It was Wellington’s first cinema, and the first to show a talking picture in 1929. The building was renovated a few years ago, but still has a charming terrace balcony to have a pre film drink on and watch the street below. I tried to take a picture of the auditorium we were in, but I am afraid it doesn’t really show the exposed bricks and wooden beams. We saw ‘Searching for Sugar Man’ which I highly recommend if you get the chance, a really interesting story about the search for a ‘lost’ musician.
